My Portable Station

My portable station, which I'm currently designing, is based on an Icom 706MKIIG

I purchased the radio about a year ago, and can't say enough about how much they've packed into this small form factor...

Here's a look at the Portable Station

Built into a Plano watertight case, there are no holes in the case so it should keep everything dry if exposed to rain...I don't plan on submersing it!

When you remove it from the case, (it's not attached) the station functions as a desktop installation...It can also be left in the case and used as a desktop

Here you can see the top aluminum strip is used to hold the antenna connectors... an HF antenna is connected to the UHF connector and the UHF/VHF antenna is plugged into the BNC.

The gizmo in the left is a mount where I can attach a Heil Handi-Mic for extended use with a remote PTT pushbutton.

A view from the back shows how the wires were routed to keep them within the space that the case offers... the case is tapered from top to bottom.

If I need to use battery power, the Anderson powerpole connectors are separated from the power supply and attached to a marine battery.

Thought there would be times when I wanted to sit on the lounge chair on the back deck, so I took advantage of the remote head capability to separate the "controls", and added a remote speaker and clock for logging.

The remote panel with all items attached fits in the Plano case so it's about 1 minute to setup the remote head

73's for now....
